Chapter 11
The stifling cabin was too much to bear. For her grandfather’s peace of mind, she’d agreed to share his cabin. It wasn’t near as comfortable as Jonas’s cabin, but that wasn’t what was keeping her awake.
The only thing she could think about was the image of the Dark Revenge resting on the ocean floor.
On deck, all was still and the black velvet sky above, twinkled with millions of stars. An ocean breeze cooled her skin as it flooded the air with the tangy scent of the sea.
It was a beautiful night, but she was so caught up in her anxieties, she barely noticed. She dreaded what the next twenty-four hours would bring. Rebecca was certain that when they returned to the island, doom would be waiting for them.
Leaning against the railing, she gazed into the black, frothy sea.
What secrets lay below its surface?
Overcome with emotion, she could no longer hold back her tears. If only the sea could whisper its secrets and tell her how to cheat destiny out of the man she loved.
Strong arms encircled her waist, pulling her against a warm body.
“Ye could go over,” he whispered.
She turned to look at him and was struck by the gentleness that was in such contrast to who he was. Turbulent emotion swirled within his black eyes; saying to her so much that he couldn’t express with words.
Neither of them could find words, so they let their touch say what they could not.
“Wait here,” he whispered.
She did as he asked. A few moments later, he returned with something in his hand that resembled a music box.
Setting the object on the deck, he opened it. Rebecca was delighted by the sweet music that filled the night.
“Would you dance with the likes of a pirate, fair lady?”
Holding each other, they swirled around the deck to the haunting melody.
For the two lovers, the outside world no longer existed. There was only the starry night. His hands deftly freed her from the barriers of clothing, seeking to those intimate places that would bring her to ecstasy.
The heat of his touch drowned out all but the unadulterated sensation of his lovemaking; his mouth devoured her tender lips as he gently laid her down. With a touch that was both ravenous and gentle, he spread her legs to accept him.
She couldn’t suppress her cry when she felt the heat of him join her own.
On this night, their lovemaking was not only filled with the swelling obsession that comes with blossoming love, but also with the desperation of knowing they may lose each other forever.
His need for her was too much; he could no longer take her gently. He savagely invaded her, taking what he needed.
Rebecca’s hunger matched his and she clawed at his flesh to take even more of her. Together, they went to a place of shattering rapture.
